Electrical Safety Notice - City Of Surrey

November 8, 2007

File: 6130-01

Dear Sports Association Representative,

Re: Wire Theft of Lighting for Sports Fields

Parks Division staff is extremely concerned with the risk to park patrons when they utilize lit sports fields after lighting systems are tampered with by wire thieves. We have experienced a recent occurrence of such a dangerous scenario. Fortunately, no one was hurt in that situation. Could you please immediately notify all players, coaches, managers, and parents that if they find lighting systems that are suspected of being tampered with, they should:

• Not attempt to activate the lighting system (even if some lights may be operational).

 • Immediately report the situation to Fire Base by calling 604-543-6700.

 • Cancel the practice/game and instruct players, coaches, and spectators present at the facility to leave the facility immediately.

• Instruct all players, coaches and spectators to keep away from the tampered light poles (It is possible that simply being in the vicinity of the light pole could be dangerous enough due to the high levels of rain and/or dew that we are currently experiencing).

Please regard this notice as an extremely high safety issue. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at 604-501-5052.

Sincerely,

Sukhi Bahia
